I’m thinking this is signaling that Google has finally accepted the past statements of ISPs that most Americans don’t care about gigabit Internet. Google was hoping to have 5 million subscribers after 5 years. What they got was just about 200,000 after just a couple years. Millions of hopeful techies and gamers from coast to coast should be sad at hearing this.
I wonder if this means Comcast and AT&T will scale back their gigabit rollouts now too? Both are scheduled to hit this area this year. I know AT&T just buried fiber on our block. I doubt they’ll give up on that investment now.
