I love it when I read a story like this, where someone of influence takes a chance and explains that they too have had to deal with mental health issues. It’s not something men should feel ashamed of. It’s a medical condition, depression. I’m stable with my current med cocktail, anxiety and depression mostly under control, but I still get anxious, or even depressed, every now and then. Tends to repeat at the same times every year. It no longer lasts as long, gets as dark/deep, or feel all encompassing, like it was before I finally sought out mental health assistance, oh so many years ago.
When former Carolina Panthers receiver Steve Smith Sr. revealed Tuesday that he struggles with depression, it was more heroic than anything he’s done on the field.
